A Large Crowd Watched the Parade and Attended the Festivities
Horse Drawn Floats were Prepared and Lined Up for the Parade
Many exciting activities took place during this 1897 Celebration to include baseball
games, children activities, races, food and game concessions, product demonstrations, a
parade through the main street with all types of floats and participants.

There was even a marriage of a handsome young couple at the center of town.
It all began here, in the "Little Red House" built in 1827 by James Faulkner.
This red frame structure was a Stage Coach Station, a Pony Express Stop, a
Doctor's Office, a Bank, an Underground Railroad Station and the Residence
of some of the most prominent citizens to reside in this community.
Additions were added to the "Red House" in several stages, today the total
structure stands proudly at 601 North State Street in the care of the Jersey
County Historical Society for all of the citizens of Jersey County.
