in Times Passed!
The Lone Star School
The Lone Star School, a one room country school was located on the
Schudel Farm just down the hill west of Fieldon, Illinois.  The school
was a gift from Bill and Patsy Schudel Halemeyer.

The school was moved to the Historical Society site and completely
restored to the original condition and is open for tours of visitors during
the Apple Festival and for school children and touring groups.
Every year during the month of May, school children from the 2nd grade
thru the History Class in High School visit the Historical Society for a
tour.  Here, Helen Gubser, a retired school teacher tells the students
how the Society obtained the Cheney Mansion.  During the tour the
students learn about the early pioneers and settlers, how they lived and
how they played.  More history is learned when they hear the story of
the Underground Railroad and the life of George Washington, the freed
black slave, purchased by Dr. Silas Hamilton while he was in the state of
Virginia and traveled with the doctor to Tennessee and then settled and
became a prosperous farmer in the Vicinity of Otterville, Illinois.

The heating stove has finally arrived and is in it's assigned
place.  A fine job of restoration by Rick and Fred Nolan.

Notice the lunch pail on the desk in the forground.
